Henri Chopin
French, 1922-2008
Manhatten (from the "Tubes" portfolio), 1975
A key figure in the experimental art and music movement, Chopin created multi-sensory art that blended the visual and aural in unique ways; Chopin's visual art was frequently an expression of his desire to explore relationships between order and disorder. Manhattan provides a excellent example of this tension as the built order of the subway line is overlaid with the chaos of use.
