Walter Blakelock Wilson
American, 1929-2011
Prairie Boxcars, 1974
Wilson's work has spanned subject matter from portraits to frontier themes; in his landscapes he frequently used an aerial perspective to draw attention to the repetitive patterns and sense of movement that Western scenery provided. In Prairie Boxcars, the linear patterns of Western agricultural environments intersect with railroad lines in a landscape that is at once natural and constructed - a visual description of the railroad in the West.
