Salt Lake City
October 2, 1864
Back here in camp in President Young's yard, where he regaled us with an abundance of finest peaches I ever saw, with permission to help ourselves as long as we remained in the city. I have been out on mule back with one man for a week exploring a road from Weber to Bear River more north than I had been before. Will take a party and run a line which will take about three weeks. Then for home.
