Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Wife and Family, April 27, 1867

In this letter from April 27, 1867, Samuel Reed writes to his wife and family describing his feelings about the hard work he has done getting the road repaired and putting trains back on their regularly scheduled runs.

Doctor Durant and party are just landing. I sent the steamer Elkhorn to Council Bluffs landing for them this morning. I do not feel any trembling in my boots. Let what will come. I have a clear conscience because I know that I have done my whole duty for him and the company he represents. The road is so that we are running trains on regular time. I have a large force on the road and hope to have it in good repair in a few days.
