In this January 6, 1870 letter, Samuel Reed writes to his wife and family informing them that it will likely be some time before his accounts are settled and he can return home.

Mr. Dillon arrived from New York this morning and thinks there is some prospect of their getting the accounts from the New York office. Nothing about the settlement yet and will not be until the papers from New York are received, unless they are willing to take my accounts as they stand. Since my arrival the company has been paying the interest on the first mortgage bonds.
