Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Brigham Young, November 13, 1869

In this November 13, 1869 letter, Samuel Reed writes to Brigham Young thanking him for his assistance during the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad.

Pres't. Brigham Young, Salt Lake City,

Dear Sir:

I regret leaving the country without seeing you. My arrangements are made to go east on Monday next. Allow me to thank you for the many courtesies extended to me by you and the citizens of Salt Lake Valley during the surveys and construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. I appreciate all that you have done to ensure the early building of the road from the organization of the company, especially during the years of 1864 and 1865, to the final completion of the work, and shall ever carry with me a grateful remembrance for the same.

My labors on the road are nearly closed. I know that I have done my whole duty and retire from the work at its completion, after six years of service, without regret.
