Armin Landeck
American, 1905-1984
Metro Station, undated
Trained as an architect, Landeck found inspiration in the spaces and landscapes of New York City for more than fifty years. The ubiquity of train and subway stations in the city provided ample material for an artist interested in the play between light and structure in those places people experienced every day; like other twentieth-century artists included in this exhibit, Landeck takes inspiration from a built environment designed for rail travel. Metro Station demonstrates Landeck's skill at creating strong, directional bars of light that shape a viewer's experience of the rendered space.
