Land Hunter's and Settlers' Special Low Rates

Published "to aid in the sale and settlement of its lands", this pamphlet by the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad introduces special fares for train tickets to Nebraska. "Exploring Tickets" were designed for those who wished to survey the land before committing to a purchase, while "One-Way Settler's Tickets" were targeted to those who had already made a decision to move to Nebraska. The company also offered rebates on the tickets to those who ended up purchasing land.

LAND DEPARTMENT.

To aid in the sale and settlement of its lands, the B. & M. Land Department has induced the leading western roads and certain eastern roads to put on sale at their principal stations low rate Exploring Round Trip Tickets and Settler's One-Way Tickets as per the following Schedule. The roads reserve to themselves the right ot change these rates at will.

Parties desiring to explore B. & M. lands in other than the counties named, should buy tickets to Lincoln, Nebraska.

At the Depot Land Office at Lincoln, explorers can buy Extension Tickets to the various points beyond, such as York, Crete, Fairmont, Kearney Junction, &c., at the Round Trip Rates named at the foot of page 5.

To arrive at any desired through round trip rate, add the Extension rate to the Lincoln rate, thus:

Chicago to Lincoln and return	$23 75
Lincoln to Sutton and return	$ 4 10
Total Fare Chicago to Sutton and Return,	$27 85

THE ROUND TRIP EXPLORING TICKETS
are sold only to Land Explorers or Home Hunters; are not transferable and are limited to 40 days—the outward going journey to be completed within 10 days from the date of sale. To make the return coupons good, Lincoln tickets must be stamped at the Lincoln Depot Land Office, and Columbus tickets at the Columbus Depot Ticket Office, and the return journey must be completed within five days after the ticket has been stamped.

NOTE.—Explorers holding tickets over the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad desiring to inspect the lands of that road in Southern Iowa are given the privilege of stopping over at Iowa points.

THE ONE-WAY SETTLER'S TICKETS
are intended for the use of such as are moving to Nebraska permanently. The tickets are Second Class, limited to 15 days, and not transferable.

REBATE ON LAND EXPLORING TICKETS.

These round trip tickets are sold by the roads to enable parties to examine land before buying, and each land exploring ticket has attached to it a Rebate Certificate, entitling the holder to the following rebates:

On a purchase of 160 acres of land on six years' credit, two years' credit, or cash terms, the entire fare paid from Chicago and Illinois points on the C., B. & Q., C., R. I. & P., or C. & N. W. railroads, up to the amount of twenty dollars.

On a purchase of 80 acres on ten years' credit, or six years', credit, one-half the fare paid is allowed, up to the amount of ten dollars, and the same proportionate allowances on smaller purchases.

Only one rebate is allowed to each purchaser.

EMIGRANTS' MOVABLES, TREES, SHRUBBERY & LIVE STOCK.

We are enabled by means of our long line of railroad, stretching westward from Chicago, to offer the following low car load rates to points in Iowa and Nebraska. These low rates make it to the interest of the value, rather than to sacrifice it at forced sale. If you cannot fill a car yourself persuade your neighbor to share one with you, and if there is still vacant space, fill the car with cattle, horses or sheep, all of which are needed in Nebraska.

For the benefit of such as might otherwise have to make the enquiry we would say that we have no special rates to offer on less than car load lots. For car load rates from roads adjacent to the C., B. & Q. and C. & N. W. Roads, apply to your nearest station agent.

A Discount of 30 per Cent. will be made from the above rates for the benefit of Actual Settlers in any County on the line of the C., B. & Q. and B. & M. in Nebraska R. R. To secure this discount the above rates must be paid, and the freight bill sent to the Land Commissioner, Burlington, Iowa, for an Iowa shipment, or to Lincoln, Neb., for a Nebraska shipment, within ninety days from the date of shipment.

An affidavit taken before a Notary Public or Justice of the Peace, by the shipper of Emigrant's Movables, Trees and Shrubbery, or Live Stock, that the freight is for his own use and benefit solely, and that he is an actual settler, with the name of two citizens as witnesses, will be accepted as proof entitling the shipper to the discount.

The same discount will be paid to any Club of Farmers who may wish to bring Live Stock, Trees or Shrubbery into the country for their own use. In such cases an affidavit signed by all the parties in the shipment, and certifying that the articles are for their own personal use and benefit will be required.

NOTE.—These discounts are open to settlers, whether purchasers or railroad land or not.
