Col. McCallum
My dear sir,
I write you in behalf of two ladies, who are inclined to visit your Department, to look after sick + wounded. They are highly respectable, energetic, and courageous women, and I have no doubt would do good service to the cause.
Do you need them & and if so, could or would you furnish them transportation?
By answering these inquiries you will confer a favor.
One of the ladies is the wife of Capt. King of the U.S. Army, who is now with Sherman's Army. and the other is a Mrs Allen of this city, a most worthy + excellent woman.
Yours with respect + haste,
A. M. Clapp
