Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Wife and Family, October 5, 1867
In this letter from October 5, 1867, Samuel Reed writes to his wife and family describing the upcoming arrival of a delegation of newspaper editors. He hopes that the Indians will give them a scare, as "it may do them some good and afford us some amusement."

I suppose the delegation of editors will be here on Tuesday next and go out on the road on Wednesday. If I can manage to get up for their benefit a genuine Indian scare, it may do them some good and afford us some amusement. I have not learned the result of the election for directors but hope they have settled their quarrel and can now go on humorously. The Doctor with all his extravagance and notions did send forward material much more promptly than I have received it this season.
