Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Wife and Family, December 28, 1868

In this letter from December 28, 1868, Samuel Reed writes to his wife and family describing the arrival of Thomas Durant. Reed also states his longing to return home.

The track is laid to the stage station in Echo Canon where we stayed one night on our trip out. Grading forces are being distributed on new work. Doctor Durant arrived at the head of Echo on the twenty-fifth, will be here this evening. You do not know how I want to be home. If anything goes wrong the H--l is to pay, the same if all goes swimmingly. I do not care whether I remain another day or not. Evans has gone east. I do not know the reasons. Doctor is just driving up and I must close.
