Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Jennie Reed, April 2, 1863

In this letter from April 2, 1863, Samuel Reed writes to his wife to tell her that he is attempting to get through the business of the previous month so that he can come home for a visit, noting that it will likely take him at least another week to complete the work.

Dearest Jennie

Your welcome letter of 29th March is just laid on my table it was indeed welcome after looking annxiously [sic] every day for more than two weeks for news from you. Last Saturday I went down to see Marion she has been very sick but is rapidly recovering. I have but a moment to write to you this morning the beginning of the month always brings with it many cares and much business and I am very anxious to get through with the business of last month as soon as I can but don't think I can see you this week. Bishop Lee came in on the train last evening I asked him home with me to supper which he accepted and we had a very pleasant chat. He has gone down the river will return here for servis [sic] next Sunday.

Remember me to all and accept love and affection from your husband.
