Letter from Marion K. McMurphy to Samuel B. Reed, September 23, 1863

In this letter from September 23, 1863, Marion K. McMurphy writes to her brother, Samuel Reed, asking his opinion of employment with the "Union Pacific Railway." She also informs him that she received a letter from their enlisted brother, Erastus H. Reed, who is still doing well.

Dear Brother Samuel

Again I sit down to pen a few lines to you & with grateful hearts I inform you of general good health of our family which has not been the case for some time past it is now three weeks since we buried our darling [Henner] & it a lonesome place His talk is no more heard & we miss him everywhere

Have you decided when you go to Joliet again, if so let me know as soon as you can

[Mc] says if there is any [?] ready to commence work & is in want of a job or work to do Have you seen anything in relation to the Union Pacific Railway & do you think it would be well to engage in the work & will enclose an advertisement & you may write us your opinion

A letter from Brother Erastus a week since says that he is well Please write soon
