Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Thomas C Durant, February 19, 1867

In this letter from February 19, 1867, Samuel Reed writes to Thomas Durant informing him that some of the estimates received from General Grenville Dodge for work on the track are much higher than what Reed and Durant anticipated when Reed was in New York .

Dear Sir

I have just recvd another estimate of quantities on 4^th part of 5^th 100 miles from Genl. Dodge.

The former estimate averaged about 6000 cubic yards per mile for 180 miles from the end of the track. According to the revised estimate there is on the 4^th hundred 7800 cubic yards per mile, and on 82 miles of the 5^th hundred 11768 cubic yards per mile. These amounts are much greater than we anticipated when I was in New York .
