Letter from Samuel B. Reed to Wife and Family, October 2, 1867

In this letter from October 2, 1867, Samuel Reed writes to his wife and family noting that his work is right on schedule, but that no more track can be laid until the New York office sends out more splice joints.

For once I am not driven to death by work. My bridges are built a long way ahead of the track. No splice joints on hand to lay track with. The fault must lay with the New York office.

I shall go to the mountains in a few days for the last time until we get the track laid to Cheyenne. I am glad to say Mr. Boyle has taken some more work of me. He has the grading from a point eight miles west of Fort Saunders to Little Laramie River, eight or ten miles.
