Letter from J. M. Nash to Adna Anderson, September 13, 1864

J. M. Nash requests a guard to ensure that the African American engineer at the Lavergne station is not harassed or his work interfered with.

United States Military Railroads, Division of the Mississippi
Office of Supt. R. Repairs N C. Line

Gen. Supt.

It is necessary that we have a guard at the Lavergne water station & pump house as soldiers and others are frequently interfering with the pumping engine driving the black man who attends to the pumping from his post and running the engines on their own account.

Respectfully Yours
