October 24
Galva, IL (Excerpt)
Omaha World-Herald (Sunday Edition), Omaha, NE, 25 October, 1896.
"Is there anybody here who thinks that the gold standard is the best thing? (Cries of
"Yes" and "No.") (Mr. Bryan repeats the question.) (Elderly man: "We have coined twice as much
silver since the demonetization act as there ever was from the time of Jefferson to '73.")
How much silver are we coining now? (No response.) I want those who say that gold is a
good thing to hold up some gold. Hold up your gold, some of you. (Train begins to move.) My friends,
look out for the gold man without any gold."
