November 2
Omaha, NE (Excerpt, Paraphrase)
Omaha World-Herald (Morning Edition), Omaha, NE, 3 November, 1896.
"When this campaign opened our opponents said that Germans would be all bolters, but I
knew that they were wrong. (Cheers.) The Germans are for sounder money. (Cheers.) If a man tells you
that silver would not be good for this country tell him that Bismarck knows more about it than he
does. (Cheers.) Bismarck said that the adoption of silver by the United States would be beneficial
and he knew."
In speaking of Bismarck Mr. Bryan said that the great prince was aware that the gold
standard was a failure in Germany and that he would like to see silver back again.
